Example Itinerary: Eastern Canada in 10 Days

Last fall, our colleague Stigne traveled to the stunning Eastern side of Canada. She embarked on a beautiful road trip in an RV from Fraserway. In her words: "The perfect route through Canada for beginners." She is happy to share her experiences and tips with future Canada RV travelers. This itinerary is ideal for those who want to explore Eastern Canada, offering a great mix of nature, culture, and local charm.

Day 1-2: Halifax

You arrive in Halifax, the capital and largest city of the Canadian province Nova Scotia. Halifax has a rich maritime history and offers numerous attractions and activities to explore in the first two days of your trip. For example, visit the city's historic district to learn more about its culture and history. In addition to the historic center, other must-see highlights include Pier 21, the cannon on Citadel Hill, and the Halifax Public Gardens.

Stigne’s Tip: Visit the Halifax waterfront, a lively area with a scenic boardwalk and plenty of delicious seafood restaurants to choose from. It's the perfect place to soak in the city's atmosphere.

Day 3: Murphy’s Cove

On the third day, you pick up your RV in Halifax and begin your adventure toward Murphy’s Cove. This peaceful spot on the shores of Shoal Bay, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean, offers an opportunity to immerse yourself in Nova Scotia’s natural beauty.

Stigne’s Tip: Murphy’s Camping on the Ocean is a fantastic campsite in the heart of nature. In the evening, you can enjoy the view of the Atlantic Ocean by the campfire. There is even a dock where you can embark on a kayaking trip.

Day 4-6: Blomidon Provincial Park

Head towards Blomidon Provincial Park. This park is one of the most stunning parks in Nova Scotia and is known for its hiking trails and viewpoints showcasing the world's highest tides! Stay here for two nights to fully enjoy the natural beauty. The park is open from mid-May to October and has 100 campsites, two picnic areas, a beach, and multiple hiking trails.

Stigne’s Tip: Make a stop along the way at the Walton Lighthouse in the town of Walton and at the oldest store in the area, Frieze & Roy General Store in Maitland. These stops will provide more insight into the region's history.

Day 7-9: Kejimkujik

After your adventure in Blomidon, it’s time to drive to Kejimkujik National Park, a unique destination in Eastern Canada. This park is famous not only for its lush forests and diverse wildlife but also for its historical significance. It is the only national park in Canada that is also a National Historic Site, due to the many archaeological sites that reveal settlements of Indigenous peoples and early settlers. The park offers a perfect mix of outdoor activities such as hiking and canoeing while also providing opportunities to learn about the region’s history.

Stigne’s Tip: Stop in Annapolis Royal and take the Kejimkujik Scenic Drive, a route that takes you inland Nova Scotia, featuring beautiful landscapes and charming villages. Once you arrive, you can stay at Jeremy’s Bay Campground, a nature-immersed campsite ideal for a few nights.

Day 10: Return to Halifax

On the final day of your trip, drive back to Halifax, but not before stopping in Lunenburg, where, according to Stigne, you can find the best lobster roll at The South Shore Fish Shack. Lunenburg is the largest fishing town on Nova Scotia’s south coast. The brightly colored buildings in the historic center have even been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Another worthwhile stop along the way is Peggy’s Cove, a popular fishing village home to the famous Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse, perched atop granite rocks. It’s the perfect spot for one last photo before heading back to Halifax.

Stigne’s Tip: Spend the night at Shubie Campground in Halifax. This campsite is close to downtown Halifax and borders Lake Charles, making it the perfect spot for your final night in the RV.

Train Journey to Montreal

Would you like to extend your RV trip with an exciting city getaway? According to Stigne, the train journey to Montreal is an unforgettable experience. During this 18-hour train ride, you can enjoy stunning views, delicious meals onboard, and even sleep in a bed. Once you arrive in Montreal, you’ll discover a city that offers a completely different vibe than Halifax. Montreal blends French influences with the distinctive Canadian atmosphere.

Stigne’s Tips: Start your day with breakfast at Le Petit Dep, a cozy café near Notre-Dame Basilica. It’s the perfect place for a cup of coffee and freshly baked treats. Don’t miss Aura Experience at Notre-Dame in Montreal—a spectacular lightshow inside the cathedral.
