One-Ways in Europe

European one-way camper rentals: what’s possible and what’s not?

A camper trip offers the ultimate freedom to explore Europe at your own pace. For many travelers, an international one-way rental - picking up the camper in one country and returning it in another - is ideal, as it saves the need to loop back to your starting point. But what are the actual options? Here’s a clear overview of the rules and possibilities.

Indie Campers: extensive one-way options in southern and western Europe

Supplier Indie Campers offers the greatest flexibility for one-way rentals. You can pick up and drop off your camper in various countries, including:

  • Belgium

  • Italy

  • France

  • Spain

  • Germany

  • Austria

  • Greece

This means you can easily plan a road trip from Paris to Rome, or from Vienna to Athens, without worrying about returning to your starting location.

Where one-ways are not available with Indie Campers

There are some limitations, though. One-way rentals are not possible between:

  • The Netherlands

  • Switzerland

  • Croatia

  • Portugal

In addition, Indie Campers has very limited operations in Central and Eastern Europe. This includes countries like Slovenia, Hungary, Poland, and Albania. If you’re planning a trip through this region, keep in mind that one-way options are far more limited.

Alternatives: McRent, RentEasy, and Apollo

Not all rental companies are as flexible as Indie Campers.

McRent and RentEasy do not offer international one-way rentals at all. You must return the camper to the same location where you picked it up.

Apollo EU is an exception: one-way rentals are only possible between Ireland and England. This can be a great option if you want to explore both islands in a single trip.

Tips for your camper journey

  • Plan your route in advance and compare different rental companies to find the best fit.

  • Consider the costs: one-way rentals are often more expensive due to vehicle relocation fees.

  • Check for border and insurance restrictions before you book.

With the right preparation, you can enjoy a smooth and carefree camper adventure across Europe!
