Combine the World Championship in the USA with an RV

The summer of 2026 may still seem far away, but if you're planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup, it's never too early to start organizing your trip. With the Netherlands (hopefully) participating, it is the perfect time to combine an unforgettable RV roadtrip through the USA with one of the world's biggest sport events. We have already mapped out three incredible RV road trips that include multiple World Cup host cities.
Exploring the Charm of Northeast America
The northeastern USA offers a great opportunity to combine three host cities: Boston, New York City, and Philadelphia. Driving an RV into these busy cities can be challenging, so we recommend staying at a campground outside the city and using public transport or alternative means to reach the stadiums. For each city, we suggest a great campground along the route.
Start your RV adventure in Boston and explore the beauty of New England: enjoy lobster rolls in Maine, hike the White Mountains in New Hampshire, or visit Ivy League universities like Brown, Harvard, or Yale. A great campground along the route is in Middleboro, conveniently located between Cape Cod and Boston. Catch a World Cup match at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, just a 45-minute drive south of Boston. This stadium will host five group-stage matches and two knockout rounds between June 13 and July 9.
Continue your journey south through Connecticut and Rhode Island until you arrive in the iconic New York City. From Times Square and Central Park to the Statue of Liberty, this city offers endless sights to explore. Park your RV at a campground in East Stroudsburg, about an hour from the city and the stadium. New York’s MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, will host five group-stage matches and three knockout rounds, including the grand final! Matches will take place between June 13 and July 19.
Final stop: Philadelphia. Just a two-hour drive from New York City, this historic city is well worth a visit. Consider making scenic stops along the Jersey Shore or visiting historic sites like Harrisburg or Gettysburg in Pennsylvania. A great campground nearby is located in Clarksboro, just 15 minutes from the stadium and 30 minutes from downtown Philadelphia. Philadelphia is packed with culture, from the famous Rocky Steps to vibrant street art and world-class museums. Don’t leave without trying the legendary Philly Cheesesteak! Lincoln Financial Field in South Philadelphia will host five group-stage matches from June 14 to June 27.
You can return your RV in Philadelphia (subject to one-way fees) or drive back to Boston, exploring Pennsylvania along the way.
A Texas roadtrip
Two host cities in the same state? That makes for the perfect road trip! Houston and Dallas are both hosting matches, giving you the chance to explore the best of Texas. Fly directly from Schiphol to Houston and start your adventure there.
Houston is famous for space exploration—who doesn’t know the phrase "Houston, we have a problem"? Visit the NASA Space Center to learn about space travel and the legendary Apollo 13 mission. Houston is also just an hour’s drive from the Gulf of Mexico, where you can relax on the coast. A great campground option is in Galveston, the perfect place to spend the first few days of your trip. With average temperatures around 30°C in June, you’ll enjoy true summer weather. The NRG Stadium, home to five group-stage matches and two knockout rounds, is an indoor stadium—ideal for escaping the Texas heat. Matches take place from June 14 to July 4.
Next stop: Dallas. A four-hour drive north of Houston, but don’t rush—Texas has plenty to explore! Stop in Austin, the state's capital, famous for live music, outdoor adventures, and the city is ranking as one of the best places to live in the USA. Before reaching Dallas, you can also visit Fort Worth, where you’ll see classic Texas Longhorn cattle and even witness daily cattle drives through the city streets. In Dallas, attend a World Cup match at the AT&T Stadium, home to the Dallas Cowboys—the world's most valuable sports team. The stadium is located in Arlington, a city between Fort Worth and Dallas. Here, five group-stage matches and four knockout rounds will take place between June 14 and July 16. Arlington also has a great campground, conveniently located between both cities and close to the stadium.
You can return your RV in Dallas for a one-way fee or extend your Texas road trip, returning the RV in Houston to avoid additional costs.
California Dreamin’
California is another state with two host cities: Los Angeles and San Francisco. These cities are a classic road trip combination, offering plenty to explore along the way. In Los Angeles, you could easily spend a week—there’s so much to do! From Santa Monica and Venice Beach to Hollywood, world-class art museums, and the Walk of Fame. However, we recommend picking up your RV only when leaving the city, as navigating LA in a large vehicle can be challenging. SoFi Stadium, located in Inglewood near LAX, is one of the newest stadiums, built in 2020. It will host five group-stage matches (including two featuring Team USA) and three knockout rounds between June 13 and July 10.
Before heading to San Francisco, choose your route carefully. You can combine LA and SF with a visit to Las Vegas—just a four-hour drive through the scenic deserts of California and Nevada. From Las Vegas, it's a nine-hour drive through Yosemite National Park, one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in the US. Be sure to take your time and stay at one of the many campgrounds in the area.
Alternatively, take the famous Highway 1 coastal route from Los Angeles to San Francisco. This iconic drive offers incredible ocean views and stops at places like Santa Barbara, Monterey, and Big Sur. A perfect campground stop along the way is in Santa Margarita.
Once in San Francisco, take in the city’s top sights: the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf, and more. However, the World Cup stadium is located outside the city. Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara (about a 45-minute drive from SF) will host five group-stage matches and one knockout round from June 13 to July 1. Returning your RV in San Francisco will incur a one-way fee. If you prefer a round-trip adventure, return it in Los Angeles for a more cost-effective journey.
