Example Itinerary: Northern Italy in 12 Days

Northern Italy is a popular holiday destination that offers everything you could want in a road trip: great weather, delicious food, and stunning nature. With its breathtaking Alpine landscapes, crystal-clear lakes, and authentic Italian villages, this region is perfect for exploring by RV. This 12-day itinerary starts and ends in Milan, taking you to the most beautiful spots in Northern Italy.

Day 1: Arrival in Milan

After arriving in Milan, take some time to explore the city. Visit famous highlights such as the Duomo di Milano or Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. A highly recommended activity is a guided bike tour, which offers a fun way to discover the city and visit places you might not find on your own. Stay overnight in a hotel in Milan so you can start your RV adventure fresh the next day.

Day 2-3: Lago di Ledro (approx. 3-hour drive)

Today, pick up your RV and head towards Lago di Ledro, a small and less touristy lake near the famous Lake Garda. Enjoy the tranquility and nature, rent a boat, or take a dip in the crystal-clear waters. Next to the lake is the charming village of Pieve di Ledro, where you can enjoy great food and browse local markets for souvenirs. A recommended campsite is Camping Al Lago, offering pitches right by the water.

Day 4: Verona (approx. 2-hour drive)

On your way to Verona, consider a stop at Parco Naturale Regionale della Lessinia for a scenic hike with stunning views. Verona is a smaller city compared to Milan or Florence but is famous for Juliet’s Balcony and its grand Roman amphitheater. If you're looking for a camping spot outside the city, Agricamping Il Parco Dell’Adige is a good option.

Day 5-6: Seiser Alm (approx. 3-hour drive)

After a day in the city, it's time to head back into nature. Your next stop is Seiser Alm, a paradise in the Dolomites. From here, you'll have breathtaking views of the unique mountain peaks. Enjoy hiking, biking, and climbing in the area. Stay at Camping Seiser Alm, where you can relax in the pool while taking in the stunning mountain scenery.

Day 7: Lago di Braies (approx. 2-hour drive)

Lago di Braies, also known as Pragser Wildsee, is one of Italy’s most beautiful alpine lakes. Enjoy scenic walks or rent a traditional rowboat to explore the lake. Between July 10 and September 10, access to the lake is restricted between 9:30 AM and 4:00 PM, and a pre-booked parking spot is required—be sure to reserve at least a week in advance. Stay overnight at Camping Olympia, about a 20-minute drive from the lake.

Day 8-9: Bormio (approx. 6-hour drive)

Today involves the longest drive of the trip, heading to Bormio. You might consider stopping in Bolzano or Romallo along the way. Bormio is a well-known winter sports destination, but in summer it also offers plenty of opportunities for an active vacation. Located near Stelvio National Park, the largest in Italy, Bormio is ideal for hiking, cycling, and exploring. After an active day, relax in the famous thermal baths. There is an RV Parking Area in the town, as well as several camping options just outside Bormio.

Day 10-11: Lake Como (approx. 2.5-hour drive)

After a morning drive, arrive at Lake Como. The surrounding nature is stunning, and there are plenty of activities such as hiking, cycling, and windsurfing. Explore the charming villages around the lake, including Varenna, Bellagio, and Como, where you can enjoy excellent Italian cuisine. During summer, the area also hosts spectacular firework shows. Numerous great campsites can be found along the lake.

Day 12: Milan

Before heading back to Milan, take a final moment to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and scenic views of Lake Como. Once back in Milan, return your RV, making the end of this unforgettable road trip through Northern Italy.
